Airdance congratulates Joanne Cabrega for winning Airdance Idol 7, an inter-company solo dance competition, with her piece "Untitled". Carlos Deriada Jr.'s "Sideline" and Melvin Apostol's "Scavenger" won 2nd and 3rd place respectively with very close scores.

 

The competition, held during Airdance's Christmas Party last December 9, 2010, at Dance Forum Space, 36E West Ave., Quezon City, was judged by an esteemed panel of judges, namely Prof. Steve "Basilio" Villaruz (UP College of Music, Artistic Director Emeritus - UP Dance Co., Dance Historian and Critic), Myra Beltran (Artistic Director - Dance Forum), Raul Alcoseba (Artistic Director - Chameleon Dance Theater) and Novy Bereber (Choreographer). Intermission numbers were also performed by Vinia Pamplona Peralta, Erick Somoza Arenas, Fred, Joseph Guzman, Rhosam Prudenciado Jr., and Joevenelle Mallorca.

 

Airdance will be holding Auditions for deserving Contemporary Dance Scholars on March 31 and April 1, 2011, at 1:00 - 3:00 pm at the Dance Forum Studio, 36E West Ave., Quezon City. Please come in dance attire.

Accepted scholars must be available for the whole duration of Airdance's 10th Summer Dance Workshop "West Ave. Story" from April 4-16 and April 25 - May 22. Must be 16 years old and above. Preferably with dance background in Ballet, Jazz, Modern and/or Contemporary. Dance Improvisation skills are a plus.

Airdance company members Alfred Mercado and Anna Agawa are off to Yokohama, Japan, to compete in the Yokohama Dance Collection EX 2011 dance competition on Feb. 11-13. They shall be performing Alfred's piece "Due Date" which won 1st place and the Audience Choice award during the WiFi Body 5 New Choreographer's Competition last July 2010. They were selected as finalists from over 80 entries from 5 different countries (Japan, Estonia, Korea, Cuba, and the Philippines).

 

They are accompanied by Airdance Associate Artistic Director Rhosam Prudenciado Jr. who will be performing as a guest artist, having won 1st place in the same competition last 2009.

Ruby KarenAirdance would like to thank Ms. Ruby Karen and her husband, Luca, of Ruby Karen Project/Orange Country Aerial Arts of Orange Country, California, USA, for conducting an Aerial Tisu (Silk/Cloth) workshop for our company members last November 8, 2010. It was truly an educational and fruitful experience.

 

Philippine-born Ruby Karen is a veteran in the performing arts industry with 35 years experience in the field of dance, circus aerials, sports, and fitness, having taught and performed continuously in at least 20 countries and 50 cities with repeated invitations. She garnered 3 World Titles, namely, the Ballet Pas de Deux and Acro-Gymnastics partnering from the highly established World Championship of Performing Arts, and The Mayan World Salsa Championship – Professional Division.
