Founded in 2001, Airdance is one of the country’s premier and pioneering companies in Contemporary Dance and the Aerial Arts. Home to prominent dancers, teachers, and choreographers in the Philippines, it is committed to providing a nurturing environment for creativity and excellence in dance.
At crucial points in her life, Nicole seemed to choose Dance as an afterthought; she would often grab the pen without hesitation. The milestone was when she took ballet lessons under Faith Javellana-Gumban. She auditioned at the Iloilo National High School Special Program for the Arts. She passed and majored in Visual Arts but soon shifted to Dance. Carmela Palencia, Tina Sison, Ria Española and Rommel Flogen were her dance teachers.
Books remain a major inspiration, she maintains that she is primarily a reader, then a writer. In UP Visayas, she majored in Literature for three years before finally shifting and transferring to UP Diliman to major in Dance.
She became a member of the UP Dance company in 2006. Under Prof. Steve Villaruz, she has performed in many of the company's repertoire locally and abroad. In 2008, she participated at the TAIPEIDEA at Taipei National University for the Arts in Taiwan. Nicole thanks her mentors and teachers throughout her years in UP Diliman - Angela Baguilat, Christine Maranan-Novales, Shanti Sreedhar, Ava Maureen Villanueva, Desiree Medina, Herbert Alvarez, Elena Laniog and Prof. Steve Villaruz.
In 2010, Nicole competed at the Young Choreographer's Competition during the WiFi Body Independent Contemporary Dance Festival. She was awarded the Most Promising Choreographer for her piece entitled 'Delight/Delirium'.
She became a member of Airdance in 2013 and was awarded a danceWeb scholarship for the ImPulsTanz Contemporary Dance Festival 2015 held in Vienna, Austria.
She credits her experiences to the many exposures and processes inside and outside of the dance studio, in interactions with artists, politicians, children, plants, animals and yes, unseen beings.
Avel started dancing at the relatively late age of 19. His first performance was with the University of the Philippines Filipiniana Dance Group performing Philippine ethnic and folk dances. With this group, and later with the U.P. Filipiniana Alumni Dance Group under Mrs. Corazon Iñigo, he toured in various provinces, held concerts, and eventually performed in Brunei, Macau, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, and Japan.
His Jazz and Modern dance training came under the tutelage of Douglas Nierras and Powerdance, with whom he performed in several highly acclaimed concerts and toured in New York and Los Angeles, USA, and in Vancouver and Edmonton, Canada. He was also part of the original cast of "Metanoia", the Philippine's official entry to the 1st Alexander Onassis International Prizes. He toured as part of the Philippine Department of Tourisms' WOW Philippines USA Road Show. He has also performed in SK Productions' "A Chorus Line".
Jed has been member of Airdance since 2005 and is presently an Associate Artistic Director of the Company. He also performed and choreograped numerous events of Airdance's artistic shows and in Wi-Fi BodyContemporary Dance Festival.
Jed was chosen for the International Young Choreographer Project in Kaohsiung, Taiwan - a project of World Dance Alliance - Asia Pacific and Americas, last July 2015.
He recently joined other special performances in musicals, TV shows and Independent Dance Film production. With great deal of gratitude Jed would like to thank his teachers where he trained and dance. Among the Teachers are Paul Morales, Avel Bautista, Dwight Rodrigazo, Myra Beltran, Max Luna III, Rene Hinojales, Ruel Calansingin, and Rudy Reveche.
